MCU Crossbones jumps to DCEU to play Rick Flag II

Crossbones actor Frank Grillo is jumping from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe.

Last year, it was announced that Grillo would voice Rick Flagg II, a World War II veteran and field commander of the Suicide Squad, in the animated series Bio-Commando. Gunn announced Grillo on Instagram that he would play the live-action version of the character and would play Rick Flagg II in the second season of Peacemaker.

Gunn posted a photo of himself and Grillo and wrote: "Excited to announce the talented Grillo as Rick Flagg II, first in the animated series Bio Commando and then throughout the second season of Peacemaker. Christopher Smith and Rick II have some unfinished business to take care of..."

The series was renewed for a second season in 2022, and soon after, Gunn announced that he and Safran would be planning a new chapter for the DC Universe, which would ultimately recast characters like Batman and Superman and introduce new storylines. However, John Cena will continue to play everyone's favorite violent mercenary, the Peacemaker.

Grillo played Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Endgame. Horror fans will know him as Sergeant Leo Barnes in The Purge series.

The second season of Peacemaker has not yet announced a release date, but Bio Commando is scheduled to be released this year, marking the official start of DC's first chapter: Gods and Monsters.
