According to foreign media Neowin, Warner Bros. Entertainment announced a joint venture with Pottermore to create a new website called Wizarding World Digital. The digital experience includes content from the Harry Potter movie universe, including materials from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series. IGN reports that all current Pottermore content will be transferred to the new domain on or about May 15, 2019. The partnership was announced in a statement released by Pottermore on Saturday, detailing the material, quizzes, features, and articles that will be transferred to the new Wizarding World site. JK Rowling's agent, Neil Blair, chairman of Pottermore.com, told The Bookseller that the partnership has been in the works for some time. Because the Harry Potter films are produced by Warner Bros., Pottermore has been unable to access feature film material in the past due to copyright issues. Blair said the partnership will allow Pottermore to offer a richer experience. He said: "This collaboration will expand and deepen what we have been able to do so far on Pottermore. Now we will no longer be unable to do something because there are copyright issues. The only limits are our imaginations and what technology is available." Details about the new Wizarding World website are currently unknown, so it is unclear whether Pottermore will be completely shut down and merged with the new site, or continue to exist but provide a different service. A statement on wizardingworld.com noted that "change is afoot," but no further details were given about the move. More information about the project will be announced soon. |
