The visual effects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are getting more and more stunning. From Doctor Who's pancake-making and building-demolishing to the half-live-action, half-CGI Thanos, each new Marvel movie shows us more incredible images. In a recent media interview, Marvel Studios' most important VFX creators introduced their skills, their origins with Marvel movies, and how they entered the industry, revealing the hard work that went into many Marvel movies. For example, Kelly Port, a special effects artist at Digital Domain, introduced that the latest machine learning technology played an important role in the production of Thanos' special effects, making Thanos' expression full of details and emotions. “From a technical perspective, we used innovative techniques in machine learning, and this was the first time this technology was used. It allowed us to create more detailed images, and those subtle facial details made the characters feel real. Without this technology, those non-dialogue performances would not be possible.” The special effects work for a movie often continues until the movie is scheduled, and may even be completed a few days before the movie is released. |
