Batman director: Shooting to start next spring or summer! Not an adaptation of a comic book or an origin story

According to foreign media reports, Matt Reeves, the director of Warner's rebooted "Batman" trilogy, said in an interview that the film script is about to be completed and will start shooting next year.

“We’re working on getting a draft of the script done in the next couple of weeks,” Reeves said. “Right now, my mind is completely on the script. As soon as I leave here, I’ll get back to writing the script.”

If all goes according to plan, the film will be able to start shooting before this time next year. "We are hoping it will be spring or early summer, that's it," Reeves said.

Since Ben Affleck might no longer play Batman, there have been constant rumors about his replacement. The most popular one is that Jake Gyllenhaal will play the role, but he himself denied it.

A reporter asked the director whether DC would choose a younger actor to replace Ben, but Reeves did not want to answer this question directly. "All of these may be connected to DC and the DC universe," Reeves said. "We are part of countless components, so I don't want to comment on this. I just want to say that I am very focused now."

He also said that despite the turmoil in the preparation of "Batman" over the years, his original ideas have not changed, and they are still the ideas he discussed with Warner. "A lot of things have happened since then," Reeves said, "but the movie, and why I'm excited about it, is still the inspiration and excitement we talked about at the beginning."

Finally, Reeves answered the rumor that the film would be adapted from Frank Miller's comic book Batman: Year One, which returned the Batman series to its dark nature and had a major influence on Nolan's Batman trilogy. Reeves said that the film would not tell an "origin story."

"We're not adapting any comics," Reeves said. "Year One is one of the many comic books that I love, but we're definitely not adapting it. It's exciting to be able to focus on telling a very personal story that's just for him. Obviously, we're not doing an origin story, or anything like that. We're doing a story that defines why Batman is Batman, and trying to tell an emotional story that shows he's the greatest detective in the world and all the reasons why I was attracted to him as a kid."
