"Top Gun 2" will start filming in July this year to tell the story of modern military life

The sequel to Tom Cruise's famous film Top Gun, Top Gun 2, will start filming in July 2018. Top Gun 2 will describe the life of the male protagonist Maverick in the modern army. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, the director of Oblivion, and will be released in North America on July 12, 2019.

Joseph Kosinski and Tom Cruise, who collaborated on Oblivion in 2013 and grossed $286 million worldwide, were originally going to work together on a racing film called Go Like Hell, but the film never materialized.

Tom Cruise has always admired Joseph Kosinski. Tom Cruise met Joseph Kosinski when he was filming "Mission: Impossible 6" in London. The two had a great conversation and had a very consistent understanding of the sequel. Kosinski won the job because of this. Now the two should have a tacit understanding when working together again.

Tony Scott's previous film "Top Gun" is a classic. The film opened the way for Tom Cruise to become a screen idol, and inspired a large number of American young people to join the US Navy. A few years ago, there was news that Tony Scott would continue to direct the sequel, but he committed suicide at the age of 68. The plan for "Top Gun 2" was shelved.
