Rick and Morty to get Japanese anime adaptation later this year

The streaming platform, formerly known as HBO Max, has now merged with Discovery+ and renamed itself "MAX". The official announced at a press conference earlier that the popular American animated series "Rick and Morty" will launch a new Japanese anime version this year, called "Rick and Morty: The Anime". The series will be produced by Telecom Animation Film and directed by Takashi Sano, the supervisor of "Lupin the Third" and "Tower of God".

Previously, Justin Roiland, one of the founders of Squanch Games, the developer of High on Life, was fired by Adult Swim, the production company of the animated series, because his ex-girlfriend accused him of domestic violence. In addition to creating the series, he also voiced many of the main characters. The official has not yet confirmed the new voice actor.

The recent merger and renaming of HBO Max was mainly due to the business restructuring of the merged company of Warner Bros. and Discovery. At the press conference just held, the official also announced a series of other series, including the "Penguin", a spin-off of "The New Batman", "True Detective: Night Kingdom", a new "Game of Thrones" prequel, and a "decade-long" "Harry Potter" series.

The specific broadcast date of "Rick and Morty: The Anime" has not yet been announced, but it is confirmed that it will be broadcast simultaneously on Adult Swim TV and MAX streaming platform.
