'Stranger Things' to be adapted into an animated series

"Stranger Things" is about to usher in a new work. Today, Netflix announced a new animated series set in the "Stranger Things" universe.

Netflix has released few details about the Stranger Things animated adaptation, except that it will be produced by Flying Bark Productions and executive producer Eric Robles. The Duffer brothers, who directed the Stranger Things TV series, will serve as executive producers through Upside Down Pictures, and Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will also help through 21 Laps.

The Duffer brothers released a statement along with the announcement, describing the series as a tribute to Saturday morning cartoons.

The Stranger Things TV series will end with a fifth season, which will be the thematic "climax" of the previous season. The first episode of the final season is titled "Chapter One: The Crawl." In addition, the Duffer brothers revealed that the fifth season will be shorter than the fourth season and may have a "return of the king" ending.
