Dragon Ball Z English dubbing actor accused of sexual harassment has defamation counterclaim dismissed

English anime voice actor Vic Mignogna was accused of sexual harassment by multiple parties in 2019, and he also filed a defamation lawsuit against his former employer Funimation and several voice actor colleagues. Last October, the court made a ruling against him, and he subsequently appealed. Recently, all his appeals were rejected, and he was required to pay additional legal fees to the defendants.

The court found that Mignogna did not have enough evidence to prove that the defendants' statements about him were false or malicious. According to the court's ruling, Mignogna not only needs to pay the costs of his own appeal, but also may have to pay attorney fees to voice actress Monica Rial and her fiancé Ronald Toye. The court dismissed Mignogna's appeal and also ordered him to pay higher fees, in part because Rial and Toye's attorney fees for the appeal exceeded the $125,000 in damages previously awarded by the court.

Vic Mignogna has voiced the protagonist Edward Elric in the English version of "Fullmetal Alchemist", and has also served as the English voice of Broly in "Dragon Ball Z" and Junpei Iori in "Persona 3". When "Dragon Ball Super: Broly" was released in the United States in 2019, rumors about Vic Mignogna's alleged sexual harassment began to intensify.

On Twitter, Monica Rial, another Dragon Ball Z voice actor, confirmed other voice actors' allegations of sexual harassment against Mignogna, saying he had engaged in inappropriate behavior.

Mignogna published a long article in January 2019, and then filed a defamation lawsuit against Funimation, Rial, Toye and female voice actor Jamie Marchi in April. In the same year, a Texas district judge dismissed Mignogna's 17 defamation lawsuits. A few weeks later, Mignogna appealed. Now his appeal has also failed, and he has incurred a lot of legal fees in vain.
