Paramount+ plans to launch 150 international original productions by 2025

Paramount "plans to produce" 150 international originals for its Paramount Plus streaming service by 2025, according to an announcement. The company revealed details on seven of those originals on Tuesday, including content from Germany, Italy, France and Mexico.

With this major investment, Paramount may be hoping to see the kind of traction that other platforms have gotten from their own international originals. Of Netflix’s international originals, Squidward may be the most successful, becoming the streaming service’s most-watched series since its launch, and French thriller Arsene Lupin is also popular. For Apple TV Plus, international originals include Pinball, which was recently renewed for a second season.

Paramount Plus will be available in the UK and Ireland starting tomorrow, June 23. The service launched in South Korea this month in partnership with South Korean entertainment company CJ ENM, will launch in Italy in September, in Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland in December, and in India in 2023.
