Lara Croft star says Tomb Raider sequel won't be coming anytime soon

Tomb Raider actress Alicia Vikander says a sequel to the Tomb Raider film looks like it will be a while before it's released.

Shortly after the first film premiered, the sequel was announced, with plans for a 2021 release date. A lot has changed since then, and even though 2021 is almost over, the film hasn't even started filming yet.

Alicia Vikander, the star of the sequel to Tomb Raider: Origins, said in an interview with Total Film that the sequel to Tomb Raider: Origins is still a long way from being officially released. The actress said that she is in close contact with the new director of the sequel, Misha Green, and shared her ideas about Lara. Vikander said: "When the studio first said they were interested in making a sequel, I was really excited. When someone mentioned Misha to me, I saw the work of Lovecraft Country and I was very moved."

According to the actress, she and her new director had a lot of fun on Zooms, where they discussed the big action scenes and stunts for the Tomb Raider sequel. She added: "I hope we can get on track and do something together."

While Vikander didn't explicitly say the film is in early development, you can probably infer that from her words. Considering that the action scenes of the Tomb Raider sequel are still being discussed, it's safe to assume that it will be a while before the sequel actually starts production. It's speculated that we could see the film in 2023, five years after the original.
