Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2: New Character Announced, the First Spider-Woman Debuts

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Issa Rae will voice Spider-Woman Jessica Drew in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2.

Ray, who has starred in the HBO series Insecure and the 2020 film The Lovebirds, is also the first new cast member to join Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2.

Other actors confirmed to star in the film include Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld.

There are not many details about the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 movie and Ray's character at the moment. In the first movie, Miles Morales, played by Shameik Moore, defeated the Kingpin with the help of Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) and Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) to prevent the collapse of the parallel universe, but at the end of the film, the multiverse opened up and future adventures were just around the corner. The film's writer and producer Phil Lord has hinted that Japanese and Australian Spider-Man may join the sequel, as well as Ray's Spider-Woman.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller will once again serve as writers and producers for the sequel, which is currently being filmed and directed by Justin K. Thompson.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 was originally scheduled to be released in April 2022, but has now been postponed to October 7, 2022.
