Producer: Thousands of people auditioned for the role of Mulan, but Liu Yifei was one in ten thousand

Disney's live-action version of "Mulan" is now scheduled to be released in China on September 11, and Liu Yifei, as the actor of the protagonist Mulan, has received a lot of praise. Recently, in an interview with foreign media Deadline, "Mulan" producer Jason Reed said that the process of finding Mulan was "unprecedented." Jason Reed estimated that before Disney chose Liu Yifei to play Mulan, "tens of thousands" of people auditioned, and Liu Yifei became this one in a million choice.

Jason Reed, producer of "Mulan", said: "We conducted an unprecedented global search to find an actress to play the role of (Mulan). I believe that thousands of actors auditioned all over the world. We had casting staff go to martial arts schools, dance schools and acting schools all over China to select. We opened casting offices in all major cities with a large number of Chinese actors. Eventually, Liu Yifei was included in the casting range, but she happened to start a project in China at the time and was not available. In fact, we flew over to meet her, and we were all fascinated by her."

Director Niki Caro decided that Liu Yifei was the best choice for Mulan without anyone's persuasion. Producer Jason Reed said: "Nikki said at the time, 'She (Liu Yifei) is Mulan.' It was that simple. Fortunately, the studio also liked Liu Yifei and signed her directly."
