According to foreign media THR, "Godzilla vs. Kong" director Adam Wingard will no longer direct the sequel. Earlier this month, the sequel to "Godzilla vs. Kong" was reported to be in preparation. At that time, it was confirmed that Dave Callahan, the screenwriter of the MCU movie "Shang-Chi", would write the script for the sequel to "Godzilla vs. Kong". THR said that Adam Wingard and the studio had a "friendly breakup" and the main reason for stopping the cooperation was schedule conflicts. Adam Wingard wanted to shoot an original thriller called "Onslaught", which was inconsistent with Legendary Pictures' plan to quickly advance the sequel to "Godzilla vs. Kong". Later, IGN also confirmed the news and contacted Legendary Pictures for verification, but Legendary Pictures declined to comment. Given the box office success of Godzilla vs. Kong 2, it's understandable that Legendary would want to fast-track a sequel. Although Godzilla vs. Kong 2 received mixed reviews, it has already grossed over $560 million worldwide on a relatively lean $135 million budget, making it on track to become the highest-grossing MonsterVerse film to date. |
