"Shazam 2" box office in China failed to reach 10 million yuan on its first day

The first-day box office of DC's new film "Shazam! Wrath of the Titans" in mainland China was reported to be 9.69 million yuan, including 420,000 yuan for the midnight show; the North American advance show on Thursday was reported to be 3.4 million US dollars.

The box office figures in both places have dropped significantly compared with the first film. The first "Shazam!" movie grossed 97 million yuan on the mainland on its first day, and eventually took in 294 million yuan in the mainland; it grossed 5.9 million US dollars in North America during advance screenings on Thursday, and eventually took in 140 million US dollars in North America and 366 million US dollars worldwide. The production cost of both "Shazam!" movies was 100 million US dollars.

The horror/science fiction/thriller film "Megan" grossed 3.03 million yuan on its first day in mainland China. The film cost $12 million to produce and was released in many parts of the world in January this year. It has already grossed $95 million in North America and $172.5 million worldwide.
