David Morrell's most famous novel is "First Blood" in 1972, which was adapted into the first film in 1982, starring Sylvester Stallone. The book portrays the protagonist Rambo as a Vietnam veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who encounters a series of tragedies while trying to integrate into civilian life, revealing how much impact the Vietnam War had on American society at the time. In Morrell's view, "Rambo 5" pushed the character in a different direction, simply showing an unstoppable killing machine.
