"The Trench" will be released before "Aquaman 2" and Aquaman and Queen will not return

James Wan's Aquaman has achieved great success around the world. Not only has the film confirmed the sequel plan, but the spin-off film "The Trench" is also being carried out in an orderly manner. What is certain at present is that "Aquaman" Jason Momoa and "Aquaman" Amber Heard will not participate in the film, and the film will be released before "Aquaman 2".

Aquaman is the most successful independent superhero movie in DCEU so far. In an interview with foreign media, the film's producer Peter Safran talked about the upcoming spin-off film Trench Tribe: "From the earliest design concept, we have been very interested in developing the movie Trench Tribe. Later, the movie was very popular with the audience, especially in some shots, the Trench Tribe followed Aquaman and Mela deep into the sea. We understand that there are some very different things there, and we know what the movie should be about. I think Trench Tribe should be released before Aquaman 2."

Previously, James Wan also expressed a similar view in an interview that DCEU will continue to expand the story of the deep sea kingdom. The specific story details are far from being revealed, but Aquaman and Aquaman will not appear in this spin-off film.

Currently, Noah Gardner and Aiden Fitzgerald are writing the script for "The Trench", which is positioned as a small- to medium-cost horror movie (so the two big names will naturally not join). "Aquaman 2" is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2022.
