"Hot and Spicy" sets record for highest box office of Chinese remake of Japanese film

Recently, Toei, the Japanese copyright holder of the original version of "Hot" "100 Yen Love", issued a press release saying that "Hot" directed by Jia Ling was released during the Chinese Spring Festival and achieved high box office.

As of February 19, "Hot" surpassed "Sex and the Professional" with 2.9 billion yuan, setting a record for the highest box office in China for Chinese remakes of Japanese films.

Toei wrote in a press release that they granted the remake rights after receiving an offer from the Chinese film company. The article also pointed out that the previous record for the highest box office of a Japanese film remake in China was "The Professional" with 2.627 billion yuan, which was a remake of Koki Mitani's "Magic Hour".

The remake of "The Key" "Raging Fire" received 762 million RMB, ranking third. What's interesting is that all three remakes of Japanese movies were released during the Spring Festival.

The release date of "Hot as Hell" in Japan has not yet been determined.
