Netflix released record-breaking series in Q3, 5 times more than any other streaming service

According to Variety, streaming giant Netflix has released the most TV series of any platform.

According to statistics from the analysis company MoffettNathanson, Netflix released 1,026 original TV series in the third quarter (Q3) of 2022. This exceeded Netflix's previous record: Netflix released nearly 900 episodes in the fourth quarter of 2021. Variety pointed out that this new record is almost 5 times that of the second largest streaming service Amazon Prime: Amazon Prime released 223 episodes in the same time period. Hulu released 140 episodes when the series fell, Disney+ launched 140 episodes, and HBO Max launched 114 episodes.

The 1,026 episodes are made up of 159 original and exclusive shows, including the just-released Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, as well as The Sandman, Cobra Season 5, and Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2, among others.

“Streaming penetration of U.S. households has matured for nearly every individual streaming service, save for the latest entrants Peacock and Paramount+,” MoffettNathanson wrote in the report. “Streaming services are no longer competing to add new streaming customers, but rather to increase (and keep) customers who are already streaming.”

Netflix had nearly 222 million subscribers at the beginning of the year, but has been losing some subscribers throughout the year due to price increases and competition from other services. Since then, the company has begun to refocus on how to deal with shared accounts, including cracking down on password sharing, and preparing to launch an ad-only price option with a limited catalog. Netflix's fourth quarter 2022 will launch including the "Adams Family" spinoff "Wednesday" and the workplace comedy "Blockbuster" in November, as well as the new witcher spinoff "The Witcher: Blood Origin" on December 25.
