Rumor has it that Darth Maul was originally the villain of the Star Wars spin-off Obi-Wan

Disney+'s upcoming live-action Obi-Wan series will once again feature the showdown between master and apprentice Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, but the series was originally centered around an entirely different conflict.

According to THR, Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace," was originally scheduled to reprise the role.

It is reported that the early version of the "Obi-Wan" story had Darth Maul hunting Obi-Wan and young Luke Skywalker. Later, because this plot was too similar to the baby Youda plot in "The Mandalorian", the script was changed.

THR sources tell them that Park was on set for pre-production and stunt training, and may have even had some filming scenes. However, the character was ultimately kicked out of the story and replaced with Darth Vader and the Imperial Inquisitor (the villain from the first season of Star Wars Rebels).

It's worth mentioning that another source of THR claims Darth Maul was never part of the live-action Obi-Wan series. While the extent of Darth Maul's involvement is not entirely clear, we do know that Obi-Wan went through serious plot rewrites during production.
