Is the plot of "A Certain Scientific Railgun" coming true? Japan plans to study RAILGUN

Although RAILGUN in the classic anime "A Certain Scientific Railgun" is just the title of the heroine Misaka Mikoto, the real RAILGUN (railgun) has not yet been officially announced by any country as a successful research. According to Japanese media reports on January 3, the Japanese government plans to invest huge amounts of money in 2022 to research the real version of RAILGUN.

•It is reported that the biggest advantage of RAILGUN is its extremely high projectile speed and range, comparable to that of small missiles, reaching 100 to 180 kilometers. It is very effective in defending against missile attacks. Japan is planning to research a new type of railgun for air defense. The United States, which currently has the strongest military power, has given up research because the development difficulty is too high.

•However, launching RAILGUN shells requires up to 25 megawatts of electricity, which is the annual consumption of 7,000 normal households. It will also be extremely difficult to use in practice. The railguns in works such as "Transformers" and "A Certain Scientific Railgun" are probably still a long way from being truly practical.
