HBO's Green Lantern series is set to start filming, similar to True Detective, with 8 episodes

DC Studios and HBO's "Green Lantern" has now been confirmed to be an 8-episode superhero police drama based on comics. The show was first announced in 2023 and is a different project from another previously canceled Green Lantern series.

This will be a series related to the DC movie universe under the leadership of director James Gunn. Similar to the cooperation of the two policemen in "True Detective", this time Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two Green Lanterns - that is, the cosmic police - will play the leading roles at the same time. Another Green Lantern Guy Gardner, played by actor Nathan Fillion, may also appear in the series after his debut in "Superman" in 2025.

Not only is the setting similar to "True Detective", the main creator of this series is also Chris Mundy, the screenwriter of "True Detective: Night Kingdom (Season 4)". HBO's "Watchmen" and award-winning comic writer Tom King will be responsible for writing and serving as executive producer.

"The series tells the story of Trusty John Stewart and Green Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two cosmic police officers who become entangled in a dark Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in America's heartland," the official description reads.

DC Films CEO Peter Safran previously announced the project, saying it was a "very important series" and compared it to "True Detective," saying it would be a "ground-based crime story." He also said that the "Green Lantern" series "plays a very important role in leading us into the major stories that DC tells on film and television."
