Indiana Jones 5 expected to open with more than $140 million worldwide

Indiana Jones and the Fallen, the latest installment in Harrison Ford's classic film series, will be the true finale to the franchise, and while it's currently receiving the lowest critical reviews of the series, it's still expected to surpass its predecessor at the box office.

According to DEADLINE analysis, the film is expected to gross $60 to $65 million in its domestic U.S. premiere, and over $140 million worldwide.

It is reported that the performance of some recent popcorn movies has proved that word of mouth is not the only factor that determines the box office after the epidemic. Despite poor reviews, "Jurassic World 3" earned $145 million in its first domestic release in the United States, and "The Little Mermaid" maintained a domestic box office of $118.8 million in four days.

Currently on Rotten Tomatoes, "Wheel of Fortune" has a freshness rating of 65%, lower than the previous "Indiana Jones" (93%) in 1981, "The Raiders of the Lost Ark" in 1984 (77%), "The Last Crusade" in 1989 (84%) and "King of the Crystal Skull" in 2008 (77%).

The current forecast data is only for the standard three-day weekend data, but the film will also benefit from the extended five-day Independence Day holiday after its release in the United States on June 30, so the box office performance may actually be better.

If the prediction is correct, Indiana Jones 5 will be comparable to the openings of No Time to Die ($55.2 million) and Mission: Impossible 6 ($61.2 million) in the United States. These films are new entries in classic franchises. According to analysis, Indiana Jones may have a larger audience than Star Wars, and may not be as attractive to young Americans.

Expectations for the new film were low, as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which debuted in 2008, grossed $100.1 million in the U.S. in its first three days. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had the second-highest opening in the series, grossing $151.9 million domestically in five days and $272.1 million worldwide.
