Johnny Depp's agent has confirmed that Amber Heard's 2018 op-ed in which she chronicled her experiences as a domestic violence survivor had a "catastrophic" impact on Depp's career. Jack Whigham, who represented Depp at Range Media Partners and previously represented Depp at CAA, said in a remote deposition on Monday that he "had a deal" for Depp to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" for $22.5 million, but that Disney decided to go "a different direction" after Amber Heard published her article in The Washington Post. Whigham reiterated an allegation Depp made during testimony last week in Fairfax, Virginia, saying: "No studios approached him after the editorial came out, which is something we would normally look at during that period." Depp said his career was "over" from "the moment the charges were made against me," adding, "Once that happened, I lost. Whatever the outcome of the trial, it will be a memory that I carry for the rest of my life." Previously, Depp told the court that he would not work with Disney on another "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. |
