"Drug War 2" produced and starred by Andy Lau was accused of plagiarism and sued for 100 million

Recently, Chengdu Universal Bona Culture Media Co., Ltd. sued Andy Lau and the six producers of the movie "Drug War 2" for infringement disputes, and demanded joint compensation of RMB 99,999,999. On August 10, the media learned that the Beijing Intellectual Property Court had received detailed evidence submitted by Universal Bona and formally accepted the case on July 20.

Universal Bona believes that "Drug War 2" is almost "completely" plagiarized from Universal Bona and director A Sheng's 2006 film "Perfect Lover" (the version released by Youku Video is "Spring Love", also known as "I Want to Say I Love You Again") in many aspects, including character setting, narrative structure, story background, character relationships, important plots, ending expression, character occupations, shooting techniques, character poster design, title design, and costume design.

Director Asheng said that he discovered that "Drug War 2" was suspected of plagiarism at the end of 2020, so he spent more than half a year collecting evidence and has now handed over the relevant evidence to the court. Public information shows that director Asheng (formerly known as Gou Yusheng) is the chairman of Universal Bona.

On July 28, Universal Bona's official Weibo account released a "Lawyer's letter regarding requesting the Hong Kong Film Awards to cancel the awards for Andy Lau's film "Drug War 2", and stated that the originals had been sent to relevant units. The film "Drug War 2" was released in mainland China on July 5, 2019. Andy Lau served as producer and starred in it. The cumulative box office reached 1.313 billion yuan, and it also won the Hong Kong Film Awards, Huading Awards and other best film honors, and represented Hong Kong, China in the Oscar "Best International Film Award".
