Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, has reflected on the poor reception the films received when they were first released. In a recent interview, McGregor said he later felt a "wave of positive reviews" and that fans were becoming more and more receptive to the prequel trilogy. McGregor described meeting fans, saying: "Now I meet the audience of the prequel trilogy, they were kids when it came out, and they think we are Star Wars. Just like we think Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are Star Wars. It's great that we are finally getting recognition for them." Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was released in 1999 and received mixed reviews upon its debut, and then it went from bad to worse. By the time the third film, Revenge of the Sith, was released, fans were clearly disappointed with the prequel trilogy. McGregor also talked about how he digested the negative comments: "I found it difficult. This kind of criticism is difficult for individuals to digest. Moreover, I was just starting my acting career at that time. I really didn't know how to deal with it. I have only participated in some projects that fell into the sea, but I have never participated in a project that caused such a big negative impact." The change in reputation of the Star Wars prequel trilogy also led Disney to decide to launch a new TV series with Obi-Wan as the protagonist, which will be broadcast on May 25 this year. |
